In these days when we cannot dance within an arm’s length of each other, we’ve nonetheless decided to hold our annual September weekend workshop in a different way. And so we bring you…

(No) Hands Across the Water
You are invited to attend!

Saturday morning: 

Brad Foster from New England will be leading a dance workshop via Zoom. He will be accompanied by Karen Axelrod
Brad Foster at microphoneKaren Axelrod at pianoThe workshop will focus on movement techniques to improve the beauty of dancing. It will include both exercises, snippets of dance to music, and full dances. The dances will sometimes be modified to better suit distancing; in other cases, you will be imagining your partner and neighbors to complete the figures. They can be danced by solo dancers, couples, or groups of four set at a distance. You can decide what works for you.  The workshop runs from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. PDT (Pacific Daylight time)

Saturday afternoon:

Ann Schau, assisted by Lael Whitehead and Susan Larkin of The Dancehall Players, will lead an in-person musicians’ workshop for intermediate and advanced musicians

Nan EvansThe workshop will focus on various aspects of playing for English country dance.

You will have a chance to play along, experimenting with new techniques and creating your own harmonies.

No experience playing for English country dancing is necessary.  The workshop runs from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. PDT and will take place at Dan’s Hall

Saturday evening:
We will have a dance-in-the-park following the musicians’ workshop

Musicians in the workshop will be invited to play for the dance along with Ann, Lael, and SusanDancing in the park

Rosemary Lach will call the dances - all inspired by beautiful English dances and adapted so we can dance together outside in a large circle.  Festive attire is encouraged. 5:00 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. PDT
